Swarn Translations
All documents may be sworn or declared before the Italian courts in order
to ensure that they are legally valid with regard to foreign countries.
Technical requirements for sworn translations
Sworn translations are made and signed on the appropriate
sworn statements/assertion form by mother-tongue translators who are duly
registered as expert consultants before the various courts of Rome and
the Region of Lazio.
The documents have legal effect since they are sworn and signed by translators
who are recognized and accredited by the competent Court, as well as by
an official at the Registry Office and are assigned a file number by the
Office of Sworn Notarial and Expert Instruments of the Rome Magistrate’s
Court.
The translations must be complete and every part must conform to the
original document and observe the following requirements
The translation must be sworn by the person who made the translation
and must be printed on Stamped Paper (“Carta Bollata”) of
€ 10,33, or on officially-approved paper (“foglio uso bollo”)
upon which a revenue stamp in the amount of € 10,33 has been affixed
to each sheet; the translation may also be printed on A4-sized paper,
with 25 lines per page, to which a revenue stamp of € 10,33 has been
affixed to every fourth page or every 100 lines;
at the end of the translation (or, if there is no space, on the back
of the final page), the translator must affix the STAMP OF SWORN STATEMENT
(available at the Office) composed of 12 lines (which are included in
the 100-line count) that the translator must fill out with his first and
last names and pertinent information on a document provided for identification
purposes;
the original document and the translation must be joined by the translator
using either his signature or his stamp or a date stamp before being presented
to the Office;
each document is translated individually even if they pertain to the
same person or are part of the same action;
the translated document may be an original or a photocopy (in such case,
the original document must be shown to the appropriate Office) and must
be placed in front of the translation to which it is stapled so as to
form a single instrument, followed by the Sworn Statement;
in the event the translation is from Italian into Arabic, the Sworn Statement
must always be placed at the end of the instrument;
IN NO EVENT WILL TRANSLATIONS BETWEEN FOREIGN LANGUAGES BE ALLOWED; rather,
the translator must produce two, distinct translations: the first from
one foreign language into Italian and the other from Italian into the
second foreign language (e.g.: if a translation from English into French
is needed, the translator must first translate the document from English
into Italian and then from Italian into French with the two translations
sworn separately);
in the event that a portion of the document to be translated into Italian
is already partially in Italian, the part in Italian must be TRANSCRIBED
in the translation; the same must also be done when translating into a
foreign language;
stamps must be translated and signatures must be reported, in the event
that they are neither clear nor legible; more specifically, illegible
stamps, illegible signatures, photographs and various marks placed on
the document must be mentioned in the translation (e.g. photographs of
the interested party, revenue stamp in a denomination of € ..., etc.).
NOTE: ALL REVENUE STAMPS AFFIXED BY THE TRANSLATOR TO THE TRANSLATION,
BEFORE PRESENTATION TO THE OFFICE, MUST BE CANCELLED BY THAT OFFICE AT
THE TIME THAT THE TRANSLATION IS REGISTERED IN THE CHRONOLOGICAL REGISTRY.
